Assam Guv, Tripura, ULFA mourn maestro’s death

GUWAHATI: Assam governor along with a host of intellectuals and artistes on Sunday mourned the death of the cultural icon.

“It is a personal loss to me and a loss to the nation as well to the world. There will be no one to match his calibre”, Assam governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik said here on Sunday.

“It is a great loss and we hope that we overcome such a loss”, he said. Tripura government also expressed grief over the death of the legendary singer-composer and music maestro.

In a message Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said, ”Hazarika was a multifaceted personality who inspired millions across generation with the power of his music, voice and creativity and he had the contribution in promoting peace and harmony in northeastern region.”

In a separate message minister for rural development and forest Jitendra Choudhury said Hazarika had pioneered the vision of northeast on the global map through his composition and he was a true exponent of national integration.

He lauded Hazarika’s pro-active role in promoting the cultural heritage of northeast through his films and music and said, ”Hazarika at once brought to one’s mind the image of the beautiful region, its culture, rustic life and core issues.”

The ULFA also mourned the death of Assam’s cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika and its anti-talk faction will ask all cadres to abjure violence as a mark of respect. (PTI)
