Hazarika to be cremated on the bank of Brahmaputra

Members of Assam Club and All Meghalaya Assamese Association paid rich tributes to Dr Bhupen hazarikas at a condolence meeting organised on the Assam Club premises on Sunday.

 Guwahati: All throughout his life, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the cultural icon composed many timeless songs describing the might, vigour and the importance of the mighty Brahmaputra river in the life of people and cementing the people-to-people bond and after his death he will lie on the bank of this revered river that dictates the course of life in Assam.

The mortal remains of Dr Hazarika will be consigned to flames on the bank of the Brahmaputra river on Tuesday in the heart of Guwahati city.

It will be in tune with his wish that he should be laid to rest on the bank of the Brahmaputra.

The Assam government on Sunday announced that the last rites of the legendary singer would be performed at Sankardev Park on the bank of the Brahmaputra in Guwahati.

Dr Hazarika’s son Tez Hazarika is expected to reach Guwahati from the US on Tuesday morning to perform the last rites of his father.

Dr Hazarika’s body would be flown to Guwahati on Monday at around 1 pm and will be received by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Governor JB Patnaik.

The body will be kept at the historic Judges’ Field in the city till Tuesday to facilitate people of Assam to pay their tribute to the singer of the masses.

He has left for heavenly abode leaving lakhs of his fan soaked in tears on the vast spread on Brahmaputra river banks.
