One missing as boat capsizes on Umiam

SHILLONG: Police is yet to trace the body of a person who drowned in the Umiam river after a boat he was travelling on capsized near Orchid Lake Resort on Sunday afternoon.

Police informed that the special team of divers from Shillong was unable to trace the body of Vishnu Thapa, who went down after the boat he was riding on with his friends, capsized. Rescue had to be stopped because of the prevailing to the darkness.

“We would resume the search on Monday morning,” police said.

Meanwhile, police also informed that four of the people including two villagers who owned the boat managed to swim back to the river bank.

“All of them have been shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital since they were badly suffering from hypothermia,” police said.

Police also said that the boat capsized while coming from the Nehru Park side towards Orchid Lake.
