SHILLONG: Referring to early marriage as a drawback for students, Principal of Shillong College, KD Ramsiej pointed out that early marriage has marred the career and also destroyed the lives of many students.

Addressing a programme on, ‘Sexual Awareness Behaviour and Accountability’ organized by the Women’s Cell of the College at the college premises here on Tuesday, Ramsiej said “Early marriage is responsible for the high drop out rate and illiteracy”, while adding that marriage should be given careful thought.

Terming marriage as a ‘sacred bond’, the principal said at present the very meaning of marriage is diluted and many enter into matrimony without carefully considering what they are getting into.
