Shillong: The missing tantrik, the self-styled god-man from Assam who is a prime accused in the gruesome murder of a seven-year-boy inside the BSF headquarters in Praharinagar, Tura on October 6, is still in Assam.
“He is still roaming in Assam and has not gone to Bangladesh. That is for sure,” said a well-placed BSF officer requesting anonymity.
The BSF source was reacting to the information provided by GHP Raju, IGP, Meghalaya, who had claimed that the tantric, Lukman Haqib of Mankachar in Dhubri district of Assam, had crossed over to Bangladesh from Mankachar border sometimes last month as per reports from Assam Police.
“I have contacted higher officials of Assam Police to get him but nothing was happening at the ground level except that hunt was on to trace the culprit. Since the tantrik is close to the local MLA there no one is willing to take any action,” the BSF source alleged.
He even said that the BSF had sent its personnel with code names to trace the culprit.
The source said that the BSF had sent their personnel immediately after the incident along with a Meghalaya Police personal to Mankachar to arrest the person.
“The Tantrik was roaming in Mankachar for many days after the crime and absconded thereafter. When we went to arrest him along with Assam Police personnel, some two to three thousand locals gathered at the site to prevent his arrest,” said the source.
The BSF official, further, questioned the intentions of the Meghalaya Police for not pursuing the matter strongly with their Assam Police counterparts.
