Three Assamese workers killed in cylinder explosion

Kannur: Three migrant workers of Assam were killed and one suffered serious burn injuries, when an ammonium cylinder exploded at Puthiyangadi under Pazhayangadi police limits, about 25 Km from here, late on Saturday.

According to police, the deceased were identified as plant operator, Babin (23) of Gilmara, Dibin (23) of Hilodhari (Post Office) and helper, Raju (25) of Hanumanthi village in Sak Nalluri district, all hailing from North Lakhimpur district of Assam.

The seriously injured Monal Gogoi (21) of Khiladhiri village was admitted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital with 70 per cent burn injuries. His condition was critical this morning, hospital sources said.

All the four Youths were employed in AVA Ice and Cold storage plant and were engaged in repair works yesterday when the mishap occurred.

Five ammonium cylinders were kept inside the ice plant, but one of the valves of a cylinder was leaking. This resulted in the explosion at 1845 hrs, on Saturday. (UNI)
