Forever Young Sports Club convener, Michael Syiem presents the certificate of excellence to Markyntisuk L Nonglait. (ST)

SHILLONG: The Forever Young Sports Club on Saturday presented the Maitshaphrang award for excellence to Markyntisuk L Nonglait for her excellent performance at the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSCL) Examination 2011.

Markyntisuk L Nonglait, a class XI student of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School studying Science was honoured with the award along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for securing 1st class 1st in the general list in the recent SSLC Examination 2011 from the 30,000 students who competed in the SSLC examination with total marks of 467 depicting a 93.4 percent. She passed out from Synod Higher Secondary School.

The award was handed over to Nonglait at Shillong Press Club here on Saturday in the presence of the other members of the Club.

“Maitshaphrang award for excellence is usually given to those students (Khasi, Pnar and Garo) who excel in their examination right from Matriculation till Post Graduate”, Forever Young Sports Club Convener Michael Syiem said.Syiem mentioned that Markyntisuk Nonglait is the first student to have secured the 1st class 1st in the general list in SSLC examination.

“Markyntisuk’s achievement depicts that we can and will try to sustain in this competitive era and we can say that we are at power with the other communities in the country.

Forever Young Convener stated that the main aim of presenting an award to the local youth is mainly to encourage them to strike forward in achieving their endeavours and to make them believe that anything can be achieved if we put our minds and hearts together.

“The students should not only look to the reservation policy to get admitted to good colleges and educational institutions but to have the spirit of competition”, Syiem mentioned.
