New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Rural development has sanctioned a Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) each for the three districts of Garo Hills which will enable poor youths to acquire skill development ultimately settling them in small enterprises or earning wages.
Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Rural Development, Agatha Sangma, has taken the initiative to set up the RSETIs in Garo Hills to provide skill development training to the rural BPL youth and also to enable them to undertake micro enterprises or wage employment.
The Ministry also called for support from the State Government in setting up these institutes, official sources said, while adding that progress has been made in East Garo Hills and West Garo Hills in setting up the institutes despite constraints of land, but not much progress has been made in case of South Garo Hills so far.
These RSETIs will be bank-led institutions and will be managed and run by the Public Sector or Private sector banks with active co-operation from the State Governments.
The Union Ministry will bear the one time expenditure up to Rupees one crore per institution on infrastructure development.
DRDAs will also provide support towards cost of training for rural BPL candidates to the sponsor banks. State Governments will provide land free of cost to these institutions on priority basis. It would be the responsibility of the banks to manage day to day functioning of the institute.
