Boy beats father to death

THANE: The Thane police have launched a hunt for a teenaged boy from Kalwa, who allegedly bashed up his father to death on Thursday night at their house over a petty issue. Police Inspector Prakash Ekbote, investigating the case, registered under section 302 of the IPC, told UNI that the alleged accused lived along with his parents in Kharigaon locality of Kalwa in Thane city. The victim was a labourer and the son earned livelihood by selling scrap and other materials. The son-father duo was at loggerheads over petty issues and it was on Thursday that things went too far and the son got annoyed. The alleged accused Sonu Mohamad Khan (17) picked up a bat in his house and fatally attacked his father Mohamad Shif Kahlil Khan (38). The victim died on the spot. Police registered an offence of murder against the son, based on a complaint by his mother KarishmaMohad Shaif Khan. Teams of police personnel have been formed to hunt for the boy, who fled the scene after the incident, police said. (UNI)

Sarpanch shot at and injured

SRINAGAR: A sarpanch was shot at and injured by unidentified gunmen in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said here on Friday. They said Abdul Salam, who was elected as sarpanch in the recently held election, was fired upon twice by the gunmen at Tral, about 35 km from here. Salam who received bullet wounds in the righ leg and hand was rushed to district hospital. However he was later refered to Bone and Joint Hospital Srinagar. No militant outfit has claimed the responsibility for the attack. This was the second firing incident in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours. Three persons, including a soldier of Territorial Army (TA) were injured in Bandipora district on Thursday. (UNI)

Huge cache of explosives seized

KORAPUT (ODISHA): Security personnel belonging to Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday found huge cache of explosives during an anti-Maoist operation in Narayanpatna area of Odisha’s Koraput district, the police said. “The explosives were seized near Rajinguda village in Narayanpatna police station area. No one has been arrested in this connection and no injury from our side has been reported,” Superintendent of Police Anup Kumar Sahoo said. The seized materials included 45 kg gel explosives, three buckets of gel improvised explosive device (IED), each weighing 15 kg, 7.5 kg gun powder, 15 kg urea and 200 meters of codex wire. “It is suspected that Maoists had stored the explosives to use it in some future offensives. If used, the explosives have the potential to explode several heavy vehicles at a time,” Sahoo said. Security has been tightened and combing operations were stepped up in the area after the seizure. Jail employee arrested

NAGPUR: An employee of the Jail press of Nagpur Central jail has been arrested after being caught red handed, supplying marijuana to some persons in the jail, police said on Friday. A police officer told UNI that yesterday the employee Subhash Ewanate was found with marijuana during checking at the gate of central jail. The Jail authorities handed him over to Dhantoli police. A magistrate today remande Ewanate to judicial custody of 10 days, police said. An offence under the Narcotic Drugs has been registered and further investigation is underway. (UNI)
