Sainik school teacher shot
KOHIMA: A Sanskrit teacher at Punglwa Sainik School in Peren district of Nagaland has been seriously injured after he was shot by some miscreants a few meters away from the school gate near Jalukie road. Official sources said Sourabh Jain (27) on his way back home from Gaili village, was shot by miscreants on Saturday. He was found lying in a semi-conscious state with injury on his neck by some villagers who then informed the gateman of the school some 500 meters away. Soon the staff of the Sainik School rushed to the spot and took the teacher to Medziphema Hospital from where he was later shifted to a private hospital at Dimapur. (UNI)
Four skulls recovered
NALBARI (ASSAM): Four skulls, including those of a woman and three children, were recovered from a paddy field at Simulia in Nalbari dsitrict on Sunday, police said. The skulls were spotted by farmers while they were working in the field this morning. The farmers informed the police who took custody of the skulls and sent those to the forensic laboratory for test.
Police suspected that the skulls could be of people killed outside, but buried in the field. They might have been dug out by animals grazing in the area. (PTI)
ULFA cadres surrender
GUWAHATI: Three hardcore cadres of the banned ULFA surrendered before the army at the Laipuli camp in Tinsukia district in eastern Assam on Sunday. The three ultras, led by Bhodia Bhumij, deposited a cache of arms and ammunition. The arms included one AK 57 rifle, one pistol, magazine and several rounds of bullets. Meanwhile, an encounter was reported between a police team and a suspected group of ULFA militants at Diriyal tea estate in Dibrugarh district.Police said the militants, riding two motorbikes, fired on the police when they were asked to stop for a routine check. The militants, however, managed to escape under cover of darkness. (UNI)
