SHILLONG: A city court has remanded the man who killed his five-year-old for nephew Mohammad Shamsad Ansari for ransom to a three-day police custody.

The accused Mehboob Hussain was produced before the court on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the macabre murder has taken a new twist with some of the victim’s relatives and neighbours suspecting it to be a case of child sacrifice.

According to the child’s neighbours and relatives, Mehboob Hussain has three girls and wanted a boy. He allegedly came into contact with a tantrik to a get a boy from his wife, who is pregnant. Some residents of the compound said Mehboob and his wife were seen going out in their taxi every night.

Questions are being raised as to why the accused made the ransom call after killing the child on Friday.

However, the police sources said that nothing has come up so far during investigation to substantiate this angle.
