SHILLONG: Langsning SC booked its place in the final of the 60th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy after defeating Green Valley, Assam 2-1 in the second semi-final at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Langsning would face Royal Wahingdoh FC in the final on Friday. Wahingdoh had reached the final after beating arch-rivals Ar-Hima in the first semifinal on Tuesday to become the first club from Meghalaya to make it to the last two stage in the tournament.

Langsning’s win against Green Valley on Wednesday ensured that for the first time two football clubs from Shillong would battle for the Bordoloi trophy.

Nigerian midfielder Yinka Joel Sunday Ayeni passed one to Sengsu Momin who found the nets to give Langsning the lead in the 19th minute.

Langsning struck again in the 35th minute to lead 2-0 when skipper Malsoma Chhangte made no mistake to score after Green Valley custodian Satish Singh failed to punch the ball out.

Meanwhile, Sanjeeva Rongpi who came as a substitute in the second half reduced the margin in the 76th minute by converting a penalty kick for Green Valley after Langsning defenders committed a foul inside the box.

The goal boosted the home side who picked up momentum to make life tough for the opposition defenders. However Langsning goalkeeper Tungshang made some brilliant saves disappointing the home crowd. The win margin could have been a bigger had Langsning not squandered several scoring opportunities in either halves.
