JOWAI: Students of Jaintia Eastern College in Jaintia Hills as part of the National Service Scheme Campaign 2011 visited and identified Rynji falls as one of the most beautiful water falls which can be promoted as an adventure tourist spot in the Jaintia Hills.
The National Service Scheme unit in Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat in collaboration with the Cement Panorama Lion Club organised a special camp at Cham-Cham village from November 21 to 27.
Nearly 70 students along with 10 NSS volunteers actively took part in various activities during the week long campaign.
The students organised a cleaning drive of the entire Cham-Cham village. An awareness program on HIV AIDS was also organised. District Medical Officer, Dr. T Bamon attended the program as a resource person.
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Khliehriat, W Muksor who also attended the camp highlighted on the legal matters related to various crimes committed by miscreants. A team of the National Disaster Rapid Force from the 1st Battalion led by Assistant Commandant, Sanjay Kumar also took part in a special program on the topic ‘Disaster Management’.
Students along with the Rangbah Shnong and village elders explored the famous waterfalls- Rynji and identified it as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the district.
The Project Officer, Jaintia Eastern College NSS Unit also informed that the main objective of the NSS programme at Cham Cham village was to create awareness among the villagers.
Villagers who actively took part in various social activities during the campaign informed that they have been greatly benefited by the NSS program.
“Our people have been well informed about various social development activities by members of the JEC NSS Unit”, headman, P Phawa said.
