Tuki urges Chidambaram to upgrade police infrastructure

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has urged Union Home minister P Chidambaram to upgrade the police infrastructure in the state and step up recruitment in the police.

During his meeting with Chidambaram in Delhi on Friday, Tuki briefed him about law and order in the state particularly in Tirap and Changlang districts, official sources said here. Chidambaram assured Tuki of providing all possible assistance to the state, they said. Defence Minister A K Antony assured of men, material and equipment for speeding up road work in Arunachal Pradesh after Tuki complained about the sluggish attitude of Border Roads Organisation in improving strategically important border roads which was causing untold miseries to the people of the state and the defence forces.

The Chief Minister informed Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi on delay in the last few months in implementation of a greenfield airport at Itanagar under the prime minister’s mega package for the state.

Ravi agreed to a suggestion for regular flights from Lilabari to Guwahati and New Delhi for the convenience of the people of the state, the sources said.

Tuki also urged DoNER Minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar to support all DoNER sponsored projects in the state.

In another meeting with K V Thomas, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Tuki pleaded for streamlining the public distribution system in the state.

The minister assured to augment the storage capacity of foodgrains by constructing FCI godowns and to ensure delivery of food grains to identified remote localities through air-lifting, the sources added. (PTI)
