SHILLONG: After 20 years of serving as the president of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Samuel Jyrwa has decided to discontinue from serving as the member of the KSU right after his term ends next year.

In a Central Executive Committee (CEC) meet held on Monday, KSU President Samuel Jyrwa stated that he will not contest in the election scheduled to be held on January 14 next year for electing new office bearers to the central body.

“I have been in the union for over 20 years now and it is time for new faces and younger generation to serve the community and lift the burden. We have to give them a chance to do something for the whole community”, Jyrwa said.

When asked about the possibilities of him joining politics, he said “There are many ways to serve the public, not just by joining politics”.

Joining the wagon was KSU general secretary Hamlet Dohling and 4 others. Like Jyrwa, Dohling said that the time is right to step down and hand over the work to other younger members. The other four members include finance secretary Danny Nongsiej, assistant finance secretary, Rangdajied Kharpuri, assistant organising secretary Roch B Nongbetand Nanri Khongjoh from women’s wing.

In the meeting, the KSU decided to hold the General Executive Committee (GEC) on December 10.
