Man hacked to death

CHENNAI: A former functionary of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a Dalit party, was hacked to death by a four-member gang in broad daylight in the city, on Friday. Police said Durai alias Chelladurai, was coming out of a mess after having his lunch at Malony Road in T Nagar, when the gang, attacked him with lethal weapons. He bled to death on the spot. Tension prevailed following the murder that took place in the busy area. Two special teams were formed to nab the killers. Police said extra-marital affairs was suspected to be the reason for the murder as Durai was said to be having relations with several women. He has been having a live-in relationship with one Priya, a mother of two children, for quite some time. (UNI)

35 students hospitalised

VILLUPPURAM (TN): About 35 students of the Government High School at Radhapuram were admitted to a hospital following symptoms of food poisoning in this district of Tamil Nadu on Friday. Police said the students were served noon meals in the school as part of the nutritious noon meal scheme of the government. The students, who took the meals during lunch break, were returning home after school hours when they complained of vomitting and giddiness. In all 35 students, including 11 girls, were admitted to Villuppuram Mundiyambakkam Medical College Hospital, where their condition was said to be stable. (UNI)

Two die as tipper fell down

SHIMLA: Two peopel including a women was killed when a tipper carrying them fell down 200 ft. deep gorge early Friday morning, police source said. A private tiper carrying two people rolled down into 200 ft deep gorge at Tikkar area of this district killing the occupants on the spot. The truck was on the way to Rohru from Tikkar when accident occurred. The deceased was identified as Anil Kumar, Driver from Uttrakahand while the other is yet to identified. (UNI)
