SHILLONG: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Sankardev College organized the week long special camping from the 3rd to 9th Dec at its adopted village of Nongthymmai, Laitkroh, about 30 kms from here.
The Unit had given training on Mushroom cultivation to the local people.
Besides the theoretical demonstration, the unit also had constructed a mushroom shed at the venue of the Nongthymmai-1 SHG, at Nongthymmai , Laitkroh as a part of the training during the programme.
About 80 participants daily participated during the training.
The participants includes the members of the different Self Help Groups of Laitkroh Elaka, the local school students, the NSS volunteers of the college and local headmen.
The local volunteers were so eager for such training at their own village and also expressed their interest in going for mushroom cultivation as an alternative source of income as agriculture is not supporting them as it used to be.
Dr S Nongbri and Dr S Dohling, botany department of Lady Keane College were the resource persons for the training.
The programme was witnessed by the Programme Organiser NSS Cell, NEHU, the Principal, Vice Principal and also the other teachers from the college.
