SHILLONG: At a time when the State is facing a serious power crisis, the 1.5 megawatt Sonapani mini hydel project at Lumkshaid, Mawprem is all set to be formally inaugurated on Thursday.
The project will be formally lauched by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma in presence of Power Minister AT Mondal.
Established way back in 1925 during British rule this was the first power project in the state.
This hydro-electric power station was in operation till April, 1982.
The State Government in 2001 decided to revive the heritage project and accordingly the construction of the project began in 2004.
The project finally was commissioned last year.
