JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner T Dkhar has ordered all the private financial companies operating in the district to stop their business immediately.

The Deputy Commissioner issued this order while hearing a petition filed by the officials of Rose Valley, a financial company operating in the district, here on Tuesday.

Earlier, Rose Valley officials held a meeting with the leaders of two NGOs — Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) and the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation. Both the NGOs sought valid documents including permission from the district administration.

Later, Rose Valley officials filed a petition before the Deputy Commissioner.

However, the Deputy Commissioner mentioned in the notice issued to Rose Valley that the petition could not be entertained and directed the branch manager of the company to stop their business in the district.

Later speaking to The Shillong Times, Dkhar said “similar notices have been issued to other companies also.”

KSU to close down cement plant: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Narpuh Circle has resolved to close down the Amrit Cement Limited (ACL) located at Umlaper village in Jaintia Hills District.

The general secretary of the KSU unit Kwilnes Suchiang informed that the union decided to take action against the company after it failed to respond to its demand to compensate two farmers of Chiehruphi village whose paddy fields were damaged by the company.

“We have decided to close down the cement plant on December 19 if the company does not response immediately”, said Suchiang.
