AGARTALA: To expedite the ongoing rail extension project in Tripura, Chief Secretary has convened a high level meeting to review the progress of Agartala-Udaipur rail link.
The meeting, which will be held on December 30, will be attended by high officials of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Transport department and CPWD, official sources said.
The main problem, the NFR sources said is the land acquisition at Bishalgarh area in West Tripura district. The land measuring 5.50 km in different spots was supposed to be handed over to NFR but it has not been completed yet.
The government could not hand over the land to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authority as per the target- by October due to opposition by local people. “We have already cleared some disputes and acquisition process is on way to get completed some more areas”, said PK Das, Land Acquisition Collector (LAC) on Wednesday.
As per the announcement, the 44 km Agartala-Udaipur rail extension project is supposed to be get over by March 2012 if required land is provided to the authority by December. In order to achieve the target the construction works are in full-swing.
“The work will get expedited when the problem centering land acquisition is get over”, said an official.
Though the Agartala-Udaipur rail extension project is the top priority for the NFR, the survey for land acquisition for the 75 km Udaipur-Sabroom rail project has been begun. “The required land for the project barring forest land has already been handed over to NFR to the survey”, said the official. The rail link up to Sabroom, Southern part of the state is supposed to get completed by March 2013 next.
