SHILLONG: The second border haat of the State proposed to be set up at Narayantala-Balat (Sunamganj-East Khasi Hills border) is likely to be inaugurated after January 15 next.

A senior government official informed that Union Minister of Commerce and Industries Anand Sharma would attend the inauguration of the proposed border haat.

“The Union Minister is presently attending to the winter session of Parliament. It is only after January 15 that he would be free to attend the inauguration,” the official said, adding that despite all the infrastructures being ready for the border haat, there has been delay in its inauguration since the Union Minister had expressed his intention to inaugurate the border haat himself.

It may be mentioned that the border haat was earlier supposed to be inaugurated in October.

The State Government had constructed pandals for the inauguration programme and had also floated tender for the refreshments.

This is the sixth time that a new date has been fixed for the inauguration of the border haat at Narayantala-Balat.
