ICARE felicitates Shillong traffic cops

 SHILLONG: At a simple but meaningful function, three traffic personnel including DSP (City) Cherry Shadap, constable P Thapa and Sub Inspector (SI) Dasgupta were felicitated for by ICARE which stands for ‘Informed Conscious And Responsible Existence,’ for upholding the law and carrying out their duties without fear or favour.

SI Dasgupta had imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on Community and Rural Development Minister Saleng M Sangma, for wrong parking at Khyndailad while Constable P Thapa had issued a summons slip to Congress MLA and Chairperson of the Assembly Privileges Committee, Ronnie V Lyngdoh for parking his vehicles in the ‘no parking zone at Laitumkhrah.

During the felicitation programme, all the three traffic cops were given a Christmas cake each and a citation of commendation from ICARE even as they were encouraged to continue with their yeoman services in regulating the traffic scenario in Shillong city.

Speaking on the occasion, ICARE president Toki Blah lauded the efforts of the three traffic police personnel in upholding the law and urged upon all the traffic cops to strictly implement the traffic rules on every citizen irrespective of their status.

Addressing the gathering, East Khasi Hills SP AR Mawthoh also asserted that the police would do its duty in the best interests of the state without any fear or favouring any body.

The three cops Thapa, Shadap as the deputy superintendent of police (city) in charge traffic were summoned by RV Lyngdoh to appear before the Assembly Privileges Committee .

ICARE member Sumarbin Umdor while lauding the efforts of the traffic personnel who work in very harsh conditions said, “As citizens it is our duty to help the traffic cops by obeying the traffic rules.”

Former Director Doordarshan Kendra, Ms Sweety Diengdoh, also a member of ICARE said it is important to establish a cordial police-public relation for better implementation of the law.

Traffic police S Thapa while speaking to media persons after the felicitation said that he would continue to do his duty to the best of his ability without any fear or favour towards anyone.

ICARE also distributed cakes to all seven police stations of the city on the joyous occasion of Christmas.
