SHILLONG: In the wake of widespread public outcry over perennial traffic congestion in the city, the State police have fixed a new timing for entry of trucks into the city.

As per the new timings, trucks carrying coal, limestone and cement (from West Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills) would be allowed to ply through the city from 8 pm to 8 am, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) AR Mawthoh informed on Tuesday.

Mawthoh also informed that the empty trucks coming from Ri-Bhoi district and trucks coming from Sohra and Pynursla would be allowed to enter the city from 8 am to 8 pm.

The SP, however, said there would be no restriction on the entry of trucks carrying essential commodities.

The new timing became effective from Tuesday.
