KANNUR (KERALA): Democratic Youth Federation Of India (DYFI) State Secretary T V Rajesh, MLA, has demanded the government re-examine the procedure adopted in the sancitoning of relief to four Assam migrant workers caught in an ammonium cylinder explosion at Puthiyangadi on November 12.

Talking to newsmen at a press conference here on Wednesday, he alleged the government had shown discrimination in the sanction of relief to the families of the victims, three of whom died in the explosion while seriously injuring another.

The government allowed only Rs 30,000 to the the families of Praseen Chutia (23), Dipin Gogoi (23) and Raju Das (25) who were killed while it sanctioned Rs 15,000 to Mohan Gogoi who was seriously injured from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Mr Rajesh said the migrant workers were so poor that the families could not even afford to transport the bodies to the native place of Lakhimpur District forcing them to perform the last rites at Payyambalam in Kannur.

It is to be noted that frequent flooding of agricultural land in Lakhimpur is rendering farmers landless in the Assam district, leading to emmigration. (UNI)
