AGARTALA: The visiting Bangladesh team has raised its reservation to arrange a civic reception programme for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to an open space- Assam Rifles ground, official sources said.

In stead, they want the programme be shifted to a indoor hall preferably at Town Hall, heart of the city on security ground though the team has visited the AR ground, proposed venue for the grand civic reception programme, said Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury on Thursday.

While talking to media on the high profile visit, he said, “I have come to know that the Bangladesh team wants the civic reception programme be organised at indoor hall. However, we are persuading for arranging such a big event at Assam Rifles ground enabling hundreds of people to see Bangladesh Prime Minister, daughter of Shekh Mujibar Rahaman, father of the nation of Bangladesh.’’

Bangladesh Prime along with a high level delegation will land at Agartala Airport on January 11 with a special aircraft.

This will be the first time, a foreign nation flight to touch down Agartala Airport even if it is not an international airport.

“If the Centre asks to arrange civic reception in an indoor hall, then the programme will be held at Town Hall after 6 pm on the same day”, he said. Chowdhury, however, admitted the state government has little choice but to accept the instruction from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

On January 12, both Bangladesh Prime and Vice President Hamid Answari will attend 9th convocation of Tripura University.

The Varsity has decided to offer honorary D. Litt to Hasina.

The Vice President will also arrive on January 11, will offer President’s medal to Tripura police at AD Nagar police line on the same day.
