Official trip?

Editor,

It is outrageous that our legislators are always making the most of their position and status. I wonder what significant development to the state will the 15 MLAs and 4 officials bring from the 10-day international “official programme” they would be attending from January 26, 2012. So far no foreign trips made by our legislators have ever proved constructive and fruitful to the state and its people. They are usually pleasure trips at the expense of the public exchequer. This time again it is one such holiday for the legislators and the government officials! Is the mere mention of “official programme” sufficient to get a clearance for expensive tours? Shouldn’t there be a more concrete detailed purpose to justify the need of representation of the legislators? How many times have our legislators come back with wealth of information and knowledge gained from such interaction with their foreign counterparts? Have they been successful in applying at least 10% of what they may have garnered from the tours, towards the general good of the state and the people? Instead to give these legislators an international joy ride rules have been bent and broken time and again. How much more will they take the people for a ride? For serious matters like salaries of teachers there has been and will forever be financial constraints but no such financial crisis arises for our legislators. The question is will the people take it lying down and allow our representatives to take us, the general public for granted. Well it is up to each one of us to decide!

MPSC wake up

Editor

Through your esteemed daily I wish to express my sympathy with all the candidates who had appeared for the Meghalaya Finance Service(MFS) examination. Eight months have elapsed since the exam was conducted, yet the MPSC has not yet declared the result. The MPSC represents the hope and dreams of many youth in Meghalaya and delay in results gives rise to all kind of speculations. I wish to know the reason for this delay in publication of results. Are there no eligible candidates? Or is there some hanky panky business going on? Hope the powers that be act in right earnest and come clean on this issue. May they expedite the matter for the examinees welfare as well as for the integrity and sanctity of the Institution
