The presence of drunkards in and around the Polo Bazar area, especially in the evening, has increased in recent times causing nuisance and passing lewd remarks to passers-by.

Residents have complained of misbehavior with ladies by the intoxicated crowd who frequent the place during evening hours.

A lady resident, J Barua said,” Sometimes they use slangs and also push the ladies who happen to cross them on the footpaths.”

It may be mentioned that there are numerous liquor shops in and around the area which make it a favourite destination for the drunkards.

Another woman who visits the area regularly said,”Until and unless the liquor shops are closed, drunkards would continue their filthy acts openly on the streets.

As per a lady who stays in Fourth Furlong, excessive rush while boarding the taxis also adds to the menace in the area which she wants to “hurry away from”.

“These taxis make six to seven people seven people sit in them and surrounded by men its really uncomfortable in there. We have no other option but to board the cab,” the lady resident said. (ST)
