GUWAHATI: The leopard which killed one person and injured several others was on Monday shifted to the Manas Tiger Reserve, where the animal would be freed.

“The leopard was fixed with microchips for identification and taken to Manas Tiger Reserve where it will be freed,” state zoo divisional forest officer Utpal Bora said here.

The leopard straying out of its habitat in the forest located in the outskirts of the city had attacked residents of Silphukuri area in the heart of the city on Saturday and killed Debu Kumar Das, an advocate.

Forest officials said rapid destruction of the animals’ habitat had resulted in their frequent straying into the city.

The leopard was taken by road and will be freed in the Manas Tiger Reserve, a world heritage site. (PTI)
