Militant shot in Manipur
IMPHAL: Assam Rifles personnel on Tuesday shot dead a militant while he was trying to enter Manipur from Myanmar and foiled a major infiltration bid when a group of heavily-armed militants was intercepted near International Border area of Khumkot in Khengjoi here. Following the interception, Assam Rifles also recovered one 7.62 mm pistol with magazine, one auto rifle,and 10 kg of explosive. Meanwhile, security had been tightened along the international border in the state in view of the Assembly election scheduled to be held on January 28. (UNI)
Mizoram village voters up by 9.78 %
Aizawl: The latest revision of electoral roll for village council elections in Mizoram, excluding the three autonomous district councils, has witnessed a 9.78 per cent increase with Mamit district recording the highest increase at a whooping 18.02 per cent.The final roll published today has registered in all 36,197 new voters, bringing the total number to 4,06,057 compared to 3,69,836 in the last village council elections in 2009.Of the 4,06,057 voters, 2,03,775 were female who outnumbered their male counterparts by 1493 voters.
