Three killed in mishap

TEZPUR (ASSAM): Three persons have been killed when a speeding truck rammed into a check gate in Assam’s Sonitpur district on Thursday, police said. The truck hit the Forest Department check gate near Jiabhoroli river near here killing two persons on duty at the gate and the handyman of the truck on the spot. The two persons killed were employees of Assam State Agriculture Marketing and was on duty at the gate since on Wednesday night. The dead have been identified as Joyram Das and Deba Hazarika while the handyman was yet to be identified. (PTI)

Insurgents strike in Manipur

IMPHAL: In their continued attacks on Congressmen, insurgents on Thursday hurled grenades at the houses of two candidates and several partymen in various areas of poll-bound Manipur, but none was injured. Grenades were lobbed at the houses of Congress nominees of Langthabal and Khongman assembly constituencies in Imphal West district on Thursday morning, but none was injured. Congress workers were also attacked with grenades at Keirao, Keisampat, Haobam Marak, Sagolband in Imphal East district and at Nambol in Bishenpur district on Thursday night. (PTI)
