Guwahati: Self-belief is of prime importance in facing the trials and tribulations of life, celebrated actor Anupam Kher said during the launch of his book here on Saturday.

“Self-confidence in yourself is the best thing about you. The power of failure is that it helps to get rid of fears,” Kher said at the function where Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi released his book The Best Thing About You Is…You!!.

“There are many lessons to be learnt from failure than success. Dealing with failure successfully has become the mantra of my life,” Kher pointed out.

Citing examples of his own life where he had no “godfathers and persons of influence to back”, Kher said, “my humble background did not act as an obstacle in attaining the goals. If you work hard, dreams will turn true.”

Tracing the genesis of the book to his one-man autobiographical play Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, Kher said, “I never realised the power of failure till I staged the play in 2005 in which I laughed at my reverses. Ironically, it was the genesis of the book.”

The eminent actor who has turned up in over 450 films and television plays, said he wanted to share the thoughts close to his heart with more people.

Expressing happiness that his book has evoked good response from the people, Kher said, “I am really happy that my book has turned out to be a best seller in 10 days’ time”.

Gogoi releasing the book in the state secretariat said, “I don’t believe in luck. It’s sheer hardwork, sincerity and commitment that will help you to face the vicissitudes of life”.

Gogoi said “failures must not deter one. One must learn from mistakes. One must have the guts to face the challenges to cope with…”

Addressing the gathering, national award winning film director Jahnu Barua said, “Self-belief in oneself can take one far….in translating one’s dreams into reality.”

The internationally acclaimed director, from Assam, had worked with Kher in his film Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara.

He said, “the best thing about Anupam is that he believes in the script of the film and perfects the role in such a way that without him this film would not have been completed.”

The book release function was organised by the Friends of Tribal Society, Guwahati chapter. (PTI)
