IMPHAL: Unidentified militants on Monday exploded a bomb near the house of a Trinamool Congress candidate at Naharup area while a bomb planted by militants was seized from the house of another party candidate in Thangmeiband area but there was no report of any injury, official sources said.
Militants set off the bomb at around 11.30 am when Trinamool Congress candidate for Kshetrigao assembly seat in Imphal East district, P Premanand was hoisting the party flag at his residence in connection with the January 28 assembly election, the sources said. No one was injured, they said adding the militants fled before the police arrived. No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, the sources said.
In the second incident unidentified militants planted a powerful bomb near the house of Trinamool Congress candidate of Thangmeiband assembly constituency in Imphal West district, Joy Kishan but it did not explode.
Police removed the bomb at around 12:.30 pm, sources said adding investigation was on.
On January 2, militants had exploded a bomb at the house of Joy Kishan in which seven persons were injured, sources said. Joy Kishan is contesting against NCP leader and former chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam.
Militant outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) had earlier claimed responsibility for exploding bomb at the house of Joy Kishan on January 2 because he was a former member of the party. (PTI)
