SHILLONG: Seven-year-old McEnbok Khyllep, the youngest FIDE rated player in the North East has once again made the state proud by bagging the 4th position in the Fifth NorthEast Chess Championship held at Gangtok from January 5-10.

Khyllep was the youngest rated player of the tournament and competed in the U-10 open category. The wiz kid from Meghalaya shocked senior players to score five points from 10 rounds to claim his position.

Apart from Khyllep, Alisha Lyngdoh, who is unrated, brought laurels to the state by claiming the second position in the U-19 girls’ category. Alisha scored 5.5 points from 10 rounds.

The results of other participants from the state were also quite satisfactory.
