Three NLFT militants held

AGARTALA: Three insurgents of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have been nabbed by Assam Rifles troopers from Gobindabari, a remote tribal hamlet in Dhalai district, the police said on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, Assam Rifles troopers carried out a search operation in the area on Friday and apprehended three NLFT ultras from a tree-top house and recovered eight live cartridges of rifle.

The ultras were identified as Saranjoy Reang (19), Puspa Kumar Jamatiya (29) and Rahumjoy Tripura (22). Assam Rifles handed them over to Chhamanu police station authority. (PTI)

Two killed in accident

GUWAHATI: Two people were killed and 18 others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Assam’s Nagaon district, official sources said on Saturday.. Two passengers of the bus travelling to Golaghat from Guwahati died on the spot on NH-37 at Khutikatia, while 18 others were injured in the collision with the truck coming from the opposite direction last night, the sources said. Stating the injured were admitted to hospital, the sources said, three of the critically injured were referred to Guwahati. One of the deceased was identified as Mintu Konwar of Golaghat. (PTI)
