GNLA makes unsuccessful bid to kill 3 ANVC cadres

SHILLONG: The GNLA militants have unleashed terror by firing in the air in Mendipathar in East Garo Hills early Tuesday morning and assaulting a civilian after a failed mission to eliminate three ANVC cadres and their families.

According to police, a group of around 15 well armed GNLA cadres came in search of the ANVC cadres — Dion G Momin, Jangsan Momin and Milseng Momin — at their respective residences at Soksan village under Mendipathar police station in East Garo Hills.

After finding that that the cadres and the families had already been moved out, the GNLA cadres fired several rounds in the air and also assaulted a villager identified as Sengrik Sangma alleging that he was a police informer. Later, the militants left the village after issuing a warning to the villagers.

Condemning the incident, the ANVC spokesperson Torik Marak said the cadres and their families would have lost their lives, if they had not moved out of the village.

According to the ANVC leader, the GNLA had in the past threatened to hunt down the ANVC senior cadres for the reasons best known to them.
