Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong will be the first premier management institute of the country to launch a global one-year Post Graduate international business programme with a China perspective starting this April.

IIM(S) has entered into an agreement with the Ocean University of China to start the new global programme with the vision to be the first management institute to focus on eastern countries which have made considerable impact in the global economy, IIM(S) Director.

Prof Ashoke K Dutta told reporters here on Tuesday.

IIM-Shillong has decided to focus on eastern countries as part of the Centre’s ‘Look East Policy’ and this programme is a step in that direction, he said.

“We have already collaborated with China on different levels with senior managers visiting the country to study its success story,” he said.

The programme will help “us study the secret of Chinese success in the global economy. The Chinese think big, build big. We have to learn and build our economy accordingly. The Chinese exposure will benefit us”, Dutta said.

The programme will be spread across eleven months and the first five months will be in India and the next six months in China with internship in Asian companies. Candidates must have work experience of a minimum of two years in a company with admission through Group Discussion and interview and the intake of students for the programme is likely to be between 30 to 40.
