NONGSTOIN: The Spring of Life Endeavour Society, Mawduh, West Khasi Hills organized a Malaria awareness programme at Mawduh village on Monday for residents of three nearby villages — Sangriang, Mawduh and Lawse — in West Khasi Hills district.
The awareness programme was attended by about 300 villagers.
P Iawren, Field Supervisor of Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI) was the resource person at the programme. He dwelt in detail on causes and prevention of malaria. He assured the participants that malaria is a curable disease and there is no reason for any panic if anyone is found to suffer from it. But if anybody shows any kinds of malaria symptom then he/she should be rushed to a nearby health centre or a hospital.
LG Nongsiej, MDC of Nongstoin constituency, who was the chief guest at the programme, lauded the organizer and the crowd for sparing their precious time towards building up the community health. He also mentioned that among all communicable diseases, malaria was a chronic one which should be treated at the earliest. He called upon the people to take responsibility and participate in controlling the spread of malaria.
He also said that proper maintenance of sanitation and hygienic disposal of sewage was not being followed which leads to the spread of malaria.
Protection from mosquitoes and mosquito reduction should be everyone’s concern, he added.
He also urged upon the villagers to make good use of the advices delivered by the resource persons.
