SHILLONG: The Mawryngkneng KSU and FKJGP have impressed upon Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Minister Saleng A Sangma on the need for constitution of an inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds by the Village Employment Committee (VEC) at Mawryngkneng at the earliest.

Speaking to reporters after emerging from the room of the C&RD Minister on Monday, KSU Mawryngkneng Circle president Wanlambok Kharsati claimed that even the Minister agrees with NGOs on the need to constitute a full fledged inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds. While informing that they have also briefed the Minister that both the VEC Chairman Clinton Kharsati and its secretary Arjun Lawai who are responsible in the misappropriation of funds have already got bail from the court, KSU Mawryngkneng Circle president said that on this ground, they told him (Saleng) that inquiry into matter cannot be further delayed.

He however said that they strongly suspect that the VEC chairman and secretary would not have managed to misutilise the funds without the involvement of the staff in the BDO office.

Meanwhile, Kharsati revealed that they have recently detected that a total amount of Rs 3.10 lakh was withdrawn from two motorable road projects from Dewsaw to Ksehbita and from Mawiong to Lumkynthong.
