Kohima: Managing Director and Group Executive, National Banking Group, SBI, Corporate Centre, Mumbai, A. Krishna Kumar on Wednesday said that the demand of banking activities was increasing in Nagaland.
With this in mind the ‘Bank on Wheels’ will help meet the demands until a new branch of the SBI comes up, he said.
Addressing a press conference here Mr. Kumar said the ‘Bank on Wheels'(BoW) had already been a success in opening accounts even in the remote areas and will visit a village twice a week.
The BoW will be equipped with laptop and internet facilities. Kohima BoW is the third in the state after Mon and Kiphire. He also informed that BoW is presently visiting the villages where the population is above two thousand, but hoped that by next year, it will be able to visit villages with population above one thousand.
He said the Nagaland Development Outreach (NDO), a voluntary church organization under the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), will cover the un-banked areas through its 1500 branches across Nagaland. He also said there are three such NGOs throughout North East and NDO alone will cover Nagaland. (UNI)
