KOHIMA: Adviser of the New and Renewable Energy (N&RE) of the Government of Nagaland Deo Nukhu on Thursday inaugurated the Kohima Solar City Cell and 10 KW Solar Power Plant at the Directorate of New and Renewable Energy Office, the first of its kind in Nagaland.
Inaugurating the Solar Cell and Solar Power Plant, Mr Nukhu stressed on the importance of renewable power, which is the need of the hour due to climate change.
He said the Solar City Cell is only an information centre to create awareness on the use of alternative energy, as well as to save power.
He thanked the Union New and Renewable Energy Department for selecting Kohima and Dimapur in the first list of 20 cities of India and informed that the Department has taken up various Solar Power schemes throughout the state.
He also said that the Department will take up to supply Solar Power in all Government Departmental offices and the Civil Secretariat at the soonest possible.
Mr Nukhu also revealed that survey works on 20 projects throughout the state are carried on and soon the Department will able to get Detailed Project Reports to take up the projects.
He further revealed that survey of Windmill Power Plant for Zunheboto, Phek and Kohima is also going on and hoped that if the reports are okayed the Department will establish Windmill Power Plants.
Moreover, the Department is planning to set up Street Solar Lamps in the villages where there is scarcity of power and 14 Solar Lamps in Kohima town with the help of Kohima Municipal Council.
Director of N&RE, T. S. Angami in his speech informed that the within a short span of time the Nagaland will able to save 66 per cent of power by using Solar power.
He also informed that the Kohima town required 12 MW of Power daily, which could able to be meet by the Department.
Speaking on the occasion Kavito Chishi, Joint Director of N&RE said that the Department will able to sell power to Power Department in future.
The Chief Executive Officer of Kohima Municipal Council assured full cooperation to implement all the Solar Energy schemes to be implemented in this capital town. (UNI)
