SHILLONG: The Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) India Ltd (education wing) which has brought immense hope to the dropouts of the state will once again stretch its helping hand to the unemployed youth and drop outs of Garo Hills.

The IL&FS which has been engaged by the Community & Rural Development Department, Government of Meghalaya to impart skills to rural youth from BPL families and make them employable are ready to open up a centre at Daru Block, Garo Hills and recruit another 50 young people. The training will start from February 13.

“There are more youth from Garo Hills who want to join in but at present the total capacity is 50 seats”, an official from the C & RD department told The Shillong Times here on Friday adding “What is surprising is that even in a troubled area like Garo Hills, people still come forward to report for training.”The IL&FS has been playing a major role in boosting up the confidence of the unemployed and underprivileged youth particularly drop-outs of the state by grooming them for a whole month before placing them in reputed companies in the hospitality industry across the country.

It was also learnt that following the success of the previous batches, the Ministry of C & RD has agreed to sanction more funds for this purpose.

It may be recalled that four badges of students have already benefited from this scheme and after placement is set in various parts of the country, these students are being monitored for over a year.

“There have been instances when a student cannot adjust to the food, culture, weather of the places where they have been placed and due to that, we remove that person from there and make sure that he is placed in another city which are quite near to Shillong like Guwahati”, the official added.

When asked about the possibilities of granting admission to girls students, the official informed “At present, we are sticking to the idea of taking the boys as it is still a new initiative and the reason why we are holding back the idea of taking in girls is because we don’t want any kinds of bad news as far as their safety is concern”, the official added.

IL&FS Education is the social infrastructure initiative of IL&FS India. Established in 1997, their core competency is to promote the three E’s – Education, Employability, and Empowerment.
