KOHIMA: Nagaland Health Minister Kuzoluzho Nienu has warned that those responsible for loss of costly medical equipment from two district hospitals in the state would not be spared irrespective of their positions and ‘connections’.

“This (loss of equipment) looks like an in-house robbery and there seems to be high-class robbers in medical department,” the minister told newsmen when his attention was drawn to the reported theft of live-saving equipment from Dimapur and Phek civil hospitals on the sidelines of a function at Dimapur on Saturday.

The reported theft of heavy medical equipment and other office goods included X-ray and ECG machines and computers in Dimapur civil hospital and medical equipment in Phek district hospital about two weeks ago.

It had raised suspicions among the public that some staff of the hospitals might be involved in the clandestine robbery.

The minister said a chowkidar and a peon of Dimapur civil hospital had already been arrested in connection with the theft. But such heavy and costly equipment could not have been taken away without the knowledge of some staff in the respective district hospitals. (PTI)
