Nagaland to create 22 new Rural Development Blocks

KOHIMA: The Nagaland government has decided to create 22 new Rural Development Blocks by carving out and re-organising existing 52 Blocks.

A memorandum issued by Nagaland Commissioner and Secretary for Rural Development V Sakhrie said the notification for creation of 22 new Blocks was notified on January 20 last.

To clearly define and demarcate the villages and areas to be included or covered by each Block by way of carving out and re-organizing the existing Blocks for altogether 74 Blocks in the state.

All the Deputy Commissioners of the 11 districts are directed to undertake thorough exercise for inclusion of villages and areas and its coverage by each Block in their respective Districts, which would be in close consultation and coordination with the Project Directors of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) concerned.

It further said all requisite details such as the number of households, population in the village as per the existing Census figures, are taken into account while identifying the villages to be included in the particular Block.

In order to avoid any complications from arising at a later stage, such proposals after proper identification and verification may be placed before the District Planning and Development Boards (DPDBs) for deliberation and approval.

Thereafter, the proposals complete in all respects are to be submitted to RD Department for further necessary action latest by February 29, the memorandum said. (UNI)
