State opinion leaders to visit Maharashtra

SHILLONG: With an aim to create awareness among the people of the North East Region about the development activities of other states, eight opinion leaders from Meghalaya have been selected to visit Maharashtra-Goa region on a 20-day tour programme conducted by the Directorate of Field Publicity, (MMT Region), Government of India, Shillong.

Joining the wagon, four each from Mizoram and Tripura are expected to visit Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, the National Institute of Oceanography, Tata Motor Factory, Western Navy Command and Rural Food Preservation Project.

Disclosing this to the press here on Monday, Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) OL Marbaniang said the sixteen opinion leaders will take off on Tuesday and are expected to return on February 26.

“This tour is part of the Central Government programmes to create awareness about the development activities of other states among the people of the North East Region to know and have first-hand experience for them”, Marbaniang said.

Marbaniang also informed that the opinion leaders will be taken to Panaji whereby they will visit Goa shipyard, National institute of Oceangraphy, Marine Biology project and Mining Industry.

 In Pune, they will visit Tata Motor factory, Central Bee keeping institute, Co-operative sugar industry and more, he said adding that in Mumbai the team will visit Bhabha Automic Research Centre, Western Navy Command, NIS and more.

 Besides, he also said that on returning these opinion leaders will submit short report of what they have experienced.

Likewise it was also learnt that opinion leaders from Chhattisgarh  who were on their tour programme will arrive in Shillong on February 17.
