SHILLONG: Despite efforts by the Shillong traffic police to control traffic congestion in the city, traffic nightmare continues to haunt not only daily commuters of Shillong but also those in the outskirts of the state.Complaints on traffic congestion pour in from all around the city and its suburbs and recently commuters along the Rymbai Bataw Borghat Jalalpur (RBBJ) Road have expressed disappointment and anguish over the traffic snarl which has hit this part of the state.
Reacting to these complaints, the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) Lad-Rymbai Circle with the help of the police personnel from Lad-Rymbai Beat House on Tuesday conducted an inspection where they managed to track down the main reason behind the snarl.
“Careless parking of most of the private vehicles along the (RBBJ) Road and the lack of responsibility of the people is perhaps the main reason behind this snarl”, AJYWO Lad-Rymbai Circle president Marshall Biam stated in a release issued here on Tuesday.
Taking strong cognizance of the matter, the police have declared no parking zones for any kinds of vehicles along the way while imposing a strict warning against those found going against the rule laid down by the police department.
The organisation also stated that in order to ease the commuters as well as to make sure that there will be smooth flow of traffic along the way no parking zone has been declared. “If anyone is found going against the law laid down by the police department, they will be punished as per law”, Biam added.
