Shillong: UDP president Dr Donkupar Roy has called upon the State Government to explore all the possible means for restoring peace including calling the GNLA for talks, Our reporter adds.

Reacting to the statement by Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh that the State Government would not hold any talks with the GNLA, Dr Roy said that in Democracy one has to address the grievances of any group.

“Even if they (GNLA) have a terrorist tag, I am of the view that the Government should call them for talks,” the UDP president told reporters on Tuesday.

Stating that militancy in Garo Hills is a serious issue, Dr Roy said the Government should explore all possible means including use of ‘carrot and stick’ policy to restore peace in the region.
