Shillong: UDP president Dr Donkupar Roy on Tuesday said that his party is open for pre-poll alliances with all like-minded parties.

“We believe in having a pre-poll alliance since it would help to bring better understanding in the formation of the Government,” Dr Roy told reporters.

He further said that a two-party pre-alliance is an ideal situation since the State had witnessed political instability due to Governments being formed based on post-poll alliances.

“There are always bargains when it comes to post-poll alliances to form the Government,” Dr Roy said.

He however did not clarify on which political party the UDP was comfortable working with.

“It is for you to judge looking at the political situation,” he added.

Meanwhile, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh that the party have directed all the Constituency Committees to submit the application of the candidates within March 31.

“The State Election Committee would scrutinize all the applications and take a final call on the allotment of party tickets,” Lyngdoh, who is also the party spokesperson, said.

He also said that the Constituency Committee was free to submit more than one name to the State Election Committee.
