Unprofessional invigilation

Editor,

I was shocked and angered by the incidents during the recently concluded examination for Meghalaya Rural Bank (Scale –I officer ) held on the 5th February 2012  in Sankardev College. The candidates taking the exam had to suffer due to lack of proper briefing on the part of the bank to the invigilators on how to distribute the questions and OMR sheets, so much so they had to be taken and redistributed three times to the examinees. Many candidates complained that they were unable to complete their answers because of this avoidable chaos. Others said they could start attempting the answers and concentrate on the paper only after 10:30 am, even though the exam was supposed to start at 10.00 am sharp. Candidates had to waste their time filling and refilling the answer sheets. This incident is unfortunate as it could have marred the future of many well qualified and enthusiastic candidates who could have cracked the exam, but for the silly incident. As a concerned citizen and as one of the candidates I want to know the reason behind this utterly unprofessional manner in which the exam was conducted.

Politicians exploit God they don’t believe in

 Editor,

The Communists deny the existence of God and yet some of them use Jesus of Nazareth as their role model and do not hesitate to praise Him as the great liberator of history. Pinarayi Vijayan, Secretary of the Kerala State unit CPI (M) spoke quite eloquently the other day about the role played by Jesus in the Temple of Jerusalem. Before Pinarayi Vijayan, another world renowned Communist, Fidel Castro of Cuba, had equated Christ as the greatest Communist in history.

Now a controversy has erupted over the placing of a placard depicting a parody of the “Last Supper” in which President Barack Obama of the US takes the centre stage in place of Jesus Christ, and on both sides of Obama the leaders of the Congress and of the BJP are placed. The churches in Kerala are fuming over it.

As a Muslim who embraced Christianity, I can understand the feelings of the Christians. I hope and I pray that they will not express their reaction violently (much against the will of the Lord) while the members of other religious communities are raising hue and cry about it.  Had the CPM used Prophet Mohammad or the other Hindu gods or goddesses, by now it would have become a very serious communal issue and the Leftists would have had to run for their lives. The CPM seems to have full confidence on the patience and love of the Christian community. Needless to say that most of the Christian leaders in Kerala have a soft corner for the Communists. Here’s a statement of the Marthoma Church Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostom that supports my view. Philipose said that he was happy that the Communists had acknowledged that Jesus Christ was humanity’s biggest liberator and that Christ was the protector of not only the Christians but of the entire humanity.

Let’s not be upset about all that is going on in the Kerala CPM over the political statement on Jesus Christ. The context in which the politicians make such statements is understandable. They are passing through an ideological crisis, a crisis the Communists world over are now passing through. They take only one side of the ideology of Jesus. They neither accept His deity nor acknowledge the truth about God who appeared in flesh to redeem the entire humanity from their wretched sinful state.

When the question of sin comes, not only the Communists but also religious people look the other way. By just upholding Jesus Christ as the great liberator of humanity, the Communists are not expected to acknowledge Christ’s deity or their wrong deeds.

I pity those people who stoop to exploit God (in whom they don’t believe) to save their lives. Look at Vladimir Putin. He is using everything within his power to become President for the third time. He has already fallen from the hearts and minds of people. He will not seek the kingdom of God and yet he hopes to rule Russia. That’s the plight of the Indian politicians too.

Eehcloy gas agency – a defaulter

 Editor,

Though your esteemed daily I wish to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the plight of customers of Eehcloy Gas Agency, particularly those living in Motinagar & Lumsohphoh area. In spite of booking for a refill on Jan 13, this year I have not been given a refilled cylinder till date. My consumer no. is 961306. The whole of last week I have been calling the Agency’s number – 2227545 at their Laitumkhrah office but their reply is always that supply has not come from Guwahati. So we waste our precious time and energy waiting for a refill everyday not knowing when they will turn up. On Feb 6, their truck with LPG supplies came up to Jingkieng. Upon enquiry we were told that the cylinders for Motinagar area would be distributed on the Feb 7 at 9.00am sharp but they never turned up. When we called up their office at Laitumkhrah at around 11.00 am the same day they told us that they had delivered the cylinders the previous day, which they never did. On being told that on the previous day, their delivery men came only up to Jingkieng and that we were told that Motinagar residents would be serviced the next day, the lady who picked up the call sternly replied that their truckload of supply has not arrived from Guwahati . The customers who are supposed to get home delivery service are taken for a ride because most customers in Meghalaya do not know how important it is to put up written complaints through proper channels. Gas agencies have taken advantage of the patience and simplicity of people here. We call upon the Deputy Commissioner (Supply) to take up this matter with urgency as I am not the only person affected. In fact all consumers of Eechloy gas agency have the same complaint.

Yours etc.,
