Army comes to the aid of students in south Assam

SILCHAR: The 11 Field Regiment (ZOJILA) of 57 Mountain Artillery Brigade under the aegis of Red Shield Division distributed free computers along with complete accessories to Swarna Lakshmi Higher Secondary School, Narsingpur this week.

This initiative was undertaken to encourage young students of the southern Assam district to enhance their computer awareness and acquaint themselves with the latest trends in information technology, an army officer said on Saturday.

The occasion was attended by senior army officers and civil dignitaries in which the computers along with accessories were handed over to school authorities by Col R K Singh, commanding officer of 11 Field Regiment (ZOJILA).

Army officers on this occasion encouraged the teachers, parents and children to spread the message of peace and harmony in the region and reunite to strengthen the nation.They were also advised not to fall prey to any kind of gimmick from anti-national elements and urged the students and parents to come forward and assist the Army and civil administration in restoring normalcy in the State.

In a separate programme, the same regiment of the Army installed gymnasium equipment at government school, Kumachara near Harinagar in Cachar district at a simple function held at the premises of school. It was an initiative to encourage extra co-curricular activities amongst young students of the school, the officer said. (UNI)
