‘Discover Jaintia’ from tomorrow

 JOWAI: The stage is set for the famous Tourism festival-Discover Jaintia, 2012.

The five-day-long festival, organized jointly by the Jaintia Tourism and Environment Society (JTES) along with other NGOs and tourism facilitators with support from Meghalaya Tourism Department, will begin from February 14.

Discover Jaintia tourism festival was first initiated in 2006 by the District administration with a motive to boost tourism industries in the district.

This year’s celebration will begin with a road show followed by formal inauguration.

Cultural bonanza, Jaintia spices festival and musical night are part of this year’s programme.

Day Two will be witness the Rupasor-Syndai festival.

The five-day long festival will culminate at the famous Ialong park.

Awareness prog: The Amlalrem branch of Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank (MCAD) organised a one-day awareness programme at Pdeinshakap Community hall, Amlarem Sub-Division on Friday.

The awareness programme was organised with a motive to sensitize people on how schemes, being implemented by different government department, are interlinked with banking operation.

In this regard, BDO Alrem, RDJ Phyllei spoke about various schemes like NREGA, IAY, OAPS and SGSY.

Similarly, representatives from Village Industries Board, District Industry Centre and the Co-operation Department also spoke on the occasion.

Fishery Officer, S Challam, EAC Amlarem, M Lyttan also attended the awareness programme.
